This Mine Howe occasion pendant necklace in sterling silver is hand-enamelled in Sheila Fleet's Orkney Workshop. The piece hangs elegantly on a silver curb chain and measures approximately 19mm in diameter.
This collection was inspired by a small button with a cross-like design, discovered at the prehistoric site known as Mine Howe, in Tankerness, a few miles from Sheila’s Orkney home and workshop. Mine Howe is a man-made chamber, dug deep inside a large mound, with 29 steps leading to a rock floor. Although the origin of the howe is not known, it’s believed to have been built 2,000 years ago.
